Jeremy Diffey (28) – Saxophones, Clarinets, Flutes, Keyboard, Vocals

Returning in May 2006 from five years performing overseas, Jeremy Diffey is finally bringing his original jazz project to his homeland. Over the years Jeremy has led a number of funk and jazz bands in Melbourne, and most recently has been musical director for Celebrity Cruises.

In the last few years Jeremy has honed his skills in both performance and composition, and his current band showcases his original works in a small group setting.

Drawing from influences ranging from Coltrane and Adderley, to Stevie Wonder, Kenny Garrett and Courtney Pine, Jeremy's music takes modern jazz and gives it a distinctive groove.

The Jeremy Diffey Quintet features:

Jeremy Diffey - Saxophones, Clarinets, Flutes, EWI
Chris Bieniek - Guitar
Daniel Gassin - Piano and Keyboards
Jamie Barlow - Electric and Acoustic Bass
Adrian Violi - Drums and Percussion

The band plays original and standard material, spiced up with a couple of covers that are given a different groove…

Jeremy also leads the swing band "Pierre Smirnoff & the Dirty Martinis". This 8 piece swing band plays the hits of the big band era, as well as more modern swing tunes from the likes of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

He is also the resident saxophonist at Circus Nightclub (Commercial Rd, Prahran) where you can hear him jamming over funky house and electro with some of Melbourne's finest djs.

For some extra funk in your life - check out The Jivecrank. Jeremy plays saxophones with this ultra funky outfit, which includes Adam Weir (Hammond Organ and Bass Keys), Andrew Rymple (guitar), Ed Fairley (trumpet) and Adrian Violi (drums). Catch us at www.myspace.com/jivecrank

Jeremy is also the saxophonist for the live house outfit, Superstarloops (www.myspace.com/superstarloops)

Over the past few years Jeremy has also arranged for many entertainers throughout the world. He can do a custom arrangement for just about any sized band, so if you need a new chart, drop him a line! Jeremy offers reasonable prices and works very quickly. Soon he will add a recording of one of his tunes, as arranged for the Matt Amy Really Big Band.

Jeremy Diffey studied at Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia, gaining both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) in 2000. He majored in both jazz performance and compostion.

Since then Jeremy has been performing throughout the world, as a musician and musical director for Celebrity Cruises and Renaissance Cruises (who don't exist anymore...).

Jeremy has been a featured soloist with the Eltham College Concert Band and the Monash Wind Symphony.

Jeremy is an Akai Pro artist - performing on the Akai EWI4000S. This funky instrument allows him to perform with a hugely varied tonal palette. It can be used in different styles of music - from modern jazz to electro house! It features heavily in the sound of Superstarloops, in his dj sets, and in the Jeremy Diffey Quintet...
